Senza dubbio 'O Munaciello e' il personaggio piu' nominato e piu' temuto dai napoletani. Questi rappresenta lo spiritello dispettoso e bizzarro che, con il suo imprevedibile comportamento, ne fa l'entita' piu' citata nelle leggende. Al comportamento dispettoso spesso si accompagnano benevoli "lasciti" in moneta contante. In questo caso non bisogna rivelare a nessuno l'episodio, pena l'accanimento del Munaciello nei nostri confronti. Non e' raro un comportamento da rattuso in presenza delle giovani e belle donne.
Vi sono due ipotesi sulla sua origine:
La prima ipotesi vuole l'inizio di tutta la vicenda intorno all'anno 1445 durante il regno Aragonese. La bella Caterinella Frezza, figlia di un ricco mercante di stoffe, si innamora del bel Stefano Mariconda, un garzone. Naturalmente l'amore tra i due e' fortemente contrastato. Il fato volle che finisse in tragedia. Stefano viene assassinato nel luogo dei loro incontri segreti mentre Caterinella si rinchiude in un convento. Di lì a pochi mesi nascerà un bambino da Caterinella. Le suore del convento lo adotteranno cucendogli loro stesse vestiti simili a quelli monacali con un cappuccio per mascherare le deformita' di cui il ragazzo soffriva. Fu così che per le strade di Napoli veniva chiamato " lu munaciello". Gli si attribuirono poteri magici fino ad arrivare alla leggenda che oggi tutti i napoletani conoscono. Anche lu munaciello morì misteriosamente.
La seconda ipotesi vuole che il Munaciello sia il gestore degli antichi pozzi d'acqua che, in molti casi, aveva facile accesso nella case passando attraverso i cunicoli che servivano a calare il secchio. I dispetti li faceva, secondo me, perche' i proprietari del pozzo non provvedevano a pagarlo per i suoi servizi.
Comunque resta il mistero di questo personaggio molto spesso associato alla parte cattiva dell'animo umano, al demonio che si nasconde e che e' sempre pronto ad afferrarci e che i napoletani cercano da sempre di evitare.
Il personaggio indicato come 'A Bella 'Mbriana, invece, rappresenta lo spirito benigno. E' una sorta di anti-munaciello. Avere questa presenza nelle case significa benessere e salute. E' rappresentata come una bella donna molto ben vestita paragonabile alla fata delle favole dei bambini. E' anche detta Meriana oppure 'Mmeriana.
La derivazione etimologica proviene dal latino meridiana il cui mariana indica l'ombra quasi a rappresentare un'ombra sotto cui ripararsi oppure indica il significato etereo dell'essere. A testimonianza dell'affetto dei napoletani verso questa figura, e' molto comune a Napoli il cognome Imbriani derivante, appunto, da 'Mbriana.
Ultimo dettaglio importante: nella casa bisogna sempre lasciare una sedia libera perche' potrebbe entrare 'A bella 'Mbriana e sedersi per riposare. Se tutte le sedie fossero occupate la nostra Amica potrebbe andare via con tutte le sciagure derivanti dalla mancata ospitalita'!
'O Munaciello &' A Beautiful 'Mbriana
No doubt 'O Munaciello and' the character more 'named and more' feared by the Neapolitans. There are two hypotheses about its origin:
The first hypothesis takes the start of the whole story about the year 1445 during the reign Aragonese. The second hypothesis wants the Munaciello both the manager of the ancient water wells that, in many cases, had easy access in homes passing through the tunnels that were used to lower the bucket. I was teasing them, according to me, 'cause the owners of the well took care to pay him for his services.
Still remains the mystery of this character often associated with the bad part of the human soul to the devil hiding and which 'always there to catch us and that the Neapolitans always try to avoid.
The character referred to as 'A Beautiful' Mbriana, represents the good spirit. It 'a kind of anti-munaciello. Having this presence in the home means well-being and health. E 'is represented as a beautiful woman dressed very well comparable to the fairy tales of children. It 'also said Meriana or' Mmeriana.
The etymological derivation comes from the Latin sundial whose shadow indicates the Marian almost to represent a shadow over their heads, or points out the significance of being ethereal. A testimony of the affection of Neapolitans to this figure, and 'very common surname in Naples Imbriani resulting, say, from' Mbriana.
