The Castle Montesarchio - Il Castello di Montesarchio

The Castle Montesarchio, one of the best examples of military architecture of Campania, located on the hill of Montesarchio area where the walls were also built and the tower (which saw the imprisonment of Neapolitan patriots including Academic Press, Nisco and Poerio). Built probably in the late eighth century by the Lombards of available Arechi II, Prince of Benevento, destroyed by the Normans, was restored by Frederick II who, in the thirteenth century, enriched it with new defensive tools. Further modifications concerned the Castle until the last century, when the ancient ruins was built a building that vaguely resembles a fortress. Follow us on Facebook


Il Castello di Montesarchio, uno dei migliori esempi di architettura militare della Campania, sorge sul colle di Montesarchio, area sulla quale furono costruiti anche le mura e la torre (che vide la prigionia di patrioti napoletani tra cui Pironti, Nisco e Poerio). Eretto, probabilmente, verso la fine dell'VIII secolo dai Longobardi su disposizione di Arechi II, principe di Benevento, distrutto dai Normanni, fu poi restaurato da Federico II che, nel XIII secolo, lo arricchì di nuovi strumenti difensivi. Ulteriori modifiche riguardarono il Castello fino al secolo scorso, quando sulle antiche rovine fu costruito un edificio che ricorda vagamente una fortezza.  Seguici su Facebook
