Partenope was a beautiful mermaid who lived among the rocks in the middle of the Mediterranean Sea. One day the ship of Ulysses came upon these rocks and Partenope tried to seduce the greek hero with his seductive song. Ulysses, however, by binding to the mast, managed to repel his advances, plunging the siren in so much pain that led her to suicide. Gettatasi at sea from a cliff, his body was left to the current of the sea, which swept up the island of Megaride, where today stands the Castel dell 'Ovo. The sinuous and graceful body of the mermaid, dissoltosi on the coast, it gave shape to the Neapolitan landscape which inherited the perfect curves and stunning beauty.
Partenope era una splendida sirena che viveva tra le rocce in mezzo al mar Mediterraneo. Un giorno la nave di Ulisse si imbatté in questi scogli e Partenope tentò di sedurre l’eroe greco con il suo canto ammaliatore. Ulisse però, legandosi all’albero maestro, riuscì a respingere le sue avances, facendo sprofondare la sirena in un dolore così grande, che la condusse al suicidio. Gettatasi in mare da un’alta rupe, il suo corpo fu lasciato alla corrente del mare, che la trascinò fino all’isolotto di Megaride, dove oggi sorge il Castel dell’Ovo. Il sinuoso e leggiadro corpo della sirena, dissoltosi sulla costa, diede così forma al paesaggio napoletano che ne ereditò le curve perfette e la bellezza mozzafiato.
