The Cathedral of Santa Maria Assunta is the most important Catholic place of worship in Naples, homonymous Archdiocese Metropolitan Cathedral. It is among the largest churches of the city also hosts the oldest baptistery of the West (Baptistery of San Giovanni in Fonte). The Cathedral is located on the east side of the street named in a square surrounded by arcades. In the thirteenth century, began the construction of the sacred building incorporating the previous structures of the early Christian baptistery and the primitive church. The construction of the cathedral also entailed the demolition of other structures, such as Stefania basilica, built by Archbishop Stephen I (late fifth century - beginning of the sixth) after a fire and rebuilt by Archbishop Stephen II (second half of the eighth century ), whose portico is visible in the Archbishop's Palace. The structure was decorated with mosaics and painted cloth, placed in the aisles intercolumini Archbishop Athanasius I (849-872). Between 1497 and 1508 was built as the chapel of the crypt Succorpo, with decorations by Thomas Malvern. Following the vow made by the Neapolitan saint during the plague of 1526, Francesco Grimaldi erected in front of the basilica of Santa Restituta, the Royal Chapel of the Treasure of San Gennaro. In 1621 the roof truss was covered by a coffered wood. On April 28, 1644 dedication of the Assumption was confirmed in the consecration of the church effected by the Cardinal Ascanio Filomarino, archbishop of the time. Follow us on Facebook

THE LEGEND OF THE SIREN PARTENOPE - LA LEGGENDA DELLA SIRENA PARTENOPE
Partenope was a beautiful mermaid who lived among the rocks in the middle of the Mediterranean Sea. One day the ship of Ulysses came upon these rocks and Partenope tried to seduce the greek hero with his seductive song. Ulysses, however, by binding to the mast, managed to repel his advances, plunging the siren in so much pain that led her to suicide. Gettatasi at sea from a cliff, his body was left to the current of the sea, which swept up the island of Megaride, where today stands the Castel dell 'Ovo. The sinuous and graceful body of the mermaid, dissoltosi on the coast, it gave shape to the Neapolitan landscape which inherited the perfect curves and stunning beauty.

The tunnel Bourbon - Il tunnel borbonico
The tunnel is a Bourbon of Naples cavity that extends into the San Fernando.
In the nineteenth century, the Bourbons did Errico Alvino architect to create this long stretch of groundwater, which connects Piazza del Plebiscite in Victory Square, to constitute a possible escape route (by sea) to the royal family and to easily reach the barracks of Victory via Morelli. The path in the next century, was abandoned, and then be reused as a bomb shelter in World War II, later, became a veritable repository of old cars. Towards the end of 2008 the structure was discovered and after several renovations, was open to the public by the "Bourbon Underground". Underwater environments by several meters of debris of various kinds, have returned to its original state, becoming a major tourist attraction. The place has a scenic and lighting, among other interventions, there is above all the restoration and exhibition of vintage cars found on the site and further discoveries of importance: such as the monument dedicated to the Fascist Aurelio Padovani opened in Naples in Piazza santa Maria degli Angeli in Pizzofalcone in 1934. It was designed by Marcello Canino and sculpted by Charles de Veroli, with the collaboration of William Roherssen and at that time the square was renamed and began what the Fascist commander. The square remained the new name and the imposing monument for ten years. After the war the desire to remove every symbol of the regime, led to the removal of statues and the restoration of ancient place names. In March of 2010 the remains of the monument were found right in the Bourbon tunnels, buried under heaps of rubble.
The tunnel Bourbon has two inputs: the first is under Domenico Morelli, near Martyrs' Square, inside the parking Morelli (chosen by the European Parking Association as the most beautiful park in Europe), while the second is in the alley cave No. 4, near the Piazza del Plebiscite, a few tens of meters above the palace of the prefecture.
Tower of Palasciano - Torre del Palasciano
The Palace Palasciano Tower (or Tower of Palasciano) is a building of historical and artistic center of Naples, located uphill Moiariello on the hill of Capodimonte. It was erected by Ferdinand Palasciano illustrious Neapolitan doctor and pioneer of the Red Cross, who used it as his home. The infectious disease specialist Domenico Cotugno Palasciano the fund had sold more than 28 bushels of structures that included a temple and two beautiful gardens of delights, plus a large eating area with fruit trees. The construction of the building by the architect Antonio Cipolla, were completed in 1868. The palace, built of masonry of tufa in part by reusing some existing facilities, has a substantially rectangular floor plan and is on two floors. The eclectic style blends neo-Gothic and Renaissance styles, while the imposing central tower seems inspired by the Palazzo della Signoria in Florence. According to a Neapolitan legend, Palasciano never wanted to leave his beautiful house and that his ghost would be seen looking out from the tower to admire the view of Naples. Follow us on Facebook
