La frittata - The omelette

Nel 1535 Carlo V, dopo la vittoria alla battaglia di Tunisi, decise di fermarsi e soggiornare nella Certosa di Padula. I cenobiti per festeggiarlo prepararono, nella splendida cucina, un lauto banchetto e una frittata di ben 1000 uova. L’ingegnosa enorme padella usata per questa pietanza è esposta nella Certosa e ancora oggi assolve la sua funzione. Ogni anno, infatti, il 10 agosto si svolge la manifestazione “Padula in festa per Carlo V - la frittata delle mille uova”. Cortei in costume, musica e un ottimo panino con la frittata caratterizzano l’evento. 

In 1535 Charles V, after the victory at the Battle of Tunis, he decided to stop and stay in the Certosa di Padula. The cenobites prepared to celebrate in the beautiful kitchen, a lavish banquet and an omelet of 1000 eggs. The ingenious huge pan used for this dish is shown in the Certosa and still fulfills its function. Every year, on August 10, the event takes place, "Padula celebrating Charles V - the omelette of a thousand eggs." Costume parades, music and a great sandwich with omelette characterize the event.
